Tromsø Jazz festival
Tromsø Jazz Festival is an annual summer festival in Tromsø in Northern Norway, which was being held for the first time from 11th - 14th of August 2016. In 2018 the festival is being held from 9th - 12th of August. We wish to create great concert and jazz experiences for locals and visitors alike in and around the city of Tromsø. The festival programme aims to reflect the strong jazz environment here in Northern Norway, while also presenting some of the best from the national and international jazz scene.
The inaugural Barentsjazz – The Tromsø International Jazz Festival was held in 2006. The festival was held 9 years running under this name in early winter as the Polar Night cast Northern Norway into darkness. However, the competition from Christmas functions, exam preparations and Christmas preparations became too great and as a result by board decided to change the concept of the festival. The 9th and final edition of Barentsjazz took place from 25 – 29 November 2015.
From its inception, the festival has received financial support from the Tromsø Municipal Council, Troms County Council and Arts Council Norway. The change from winter festival to summer festival, including the associated concept and name changes, has been made possible by a two-year grant from the Troms County Council Business Development Fund.
We are extremely grateful for this support, and hope that as many people as possible enjoy our festival!
